Exhibition created for Bitsy Jam 82 - Intentionally Bad
When she disappeared, the artist K.W. left behind ten thousand landscapes. Jagged, impoverished landscapes. Now a representative sample of her works has been put on display.
Even though I made this in a rush, and even though the point of the jam was to create something bad, I really, really like how this one turned out. An artist committing to such an extreme and narrow output feels both appalling, but also strangely appealing. I’m reminded of a section from a talk by Em Reed:
“Past a certain point, we start feeling like cultural abundance has to be culled to a representative sample and archived as a “style” or Movement, disciplined into proper artistic techniques and subjects, made into something that’s optimized within arcane algorithms for hits or likes, and, most importantly, commercial success. To keep indulging that capability without these things can seem from the outside like a quixotic delusion.”
Something to explore further in future games?
